City of Glasgow Acrobatics continued their competition season at the NDP and FIG Team Competition at Larkhall. This was the first year City of Glasgow had participated in this competition and unfortunately did not have sufficient numbers of gymnasts to form a complete Team eligible for the Team trophies. However, our gymnasts performed well and earned individual medals in their respective categories. Our FIG 11-16 Men’s Pair, Craig Downie, Mitchell Smith, and Men’s Group, Fraser Shepard, Greg Robertson, James Thomson, Colin Drysdale, performed to a high standard, scoring 26.233 and 25.599 respectively, to earn gold medals. Our NDP Grade 3 Women’s Group, Kirsty McManus, Catrionia Holland, Isla Kennedy, performed very well to score 25.366, showing a steady improvement from their last competition and earning 1st place.
City of Glasgow Gymnastics Club’s Grade 2 partnerships were also in action at the weekend. The NDP and FIG Team competition at Larkhall was another chance for these new partnerships to benefit from the vital experience gained from competing. The partnerships of Lewis Deas and Kirsty Mclean, Lee McHarg and Kerri McLellan and finally Ian McLean and Marcus Hunter all competed. Lee and Kerri performed their routine and managed a respectable 25 score for their efforts. Second up were Lewis and Kirsty who performed a very clean routine scoring 24.55. Finally Ian and Marcus performed 2nd last out of the whole competition, but produced a well performed and entertaining routine gaining them another score in the 25 region. All partnerships have the potential to break into the 26 point barrier if they continue their hard work in training. Again this competition brought more benefits than just attaining scores and will help the gymnasts develop and become more experienced in their competitive careers.
